Our stay in Sydney started in the worst way.. Separated! For the first time in more than a month we had to brush our teethes alone, no one to share bedtime philosophy with, no one to say “goodnight” too. You might think it would be a relief, after so many days together. It wasn't, it was just a strange feeling, felt soo lonely. We were so happy when we were reunited the next day!:-)
The happy reunited couple went out to explore Sydney!
Then the evening came and we meet up with James, and a bunch of other people from the hostel. After we were proper dressed (Ranveig in James shoes), we hit the clubs!
We even ended op at the nightclubs webpage!
One of the days we took the ferry out to visit one of Sydney's many beaches, Manly Beach. The trip was really worth the money (which wasn't much).
We went under Harbor Bridge and passed the Opera House on the way. Beautiful city-view.
The beach was good too, but when we got there clouds were starting to build up in the sky, and we felt more like buying hot chocolate rather that jump out in the waves. So we did.:-)
We also had a day were we were really marine. First stop the Fish marked were er tried oysters for the first time.
The pictures really tell what Ranveig felt about it..:-)
And then, Sydney Aquarium where the platypus stole most of our attention. What a funny creator!
Our last day there and in Australia was truly magic. It was the Australian Surf Open at Manly Beach. We went there to meet Byrne and his girlfriend Laura. It was cool but CROWDED, so we decided to find a more quiet beach. And Byrne knew the perfect one. The worlds most beautiful he said, which happened to be where he work as a lifeguard.
On the way we stopped to take pictures on Summer Beach (Home and Away), which also were nice.
Byrnes beach was truly beautiful, but we have to admit that the world have more beautiful ones as well. Since the first day in Australia, we have talked about trying to surf, and here we finally got the chance!
Byrne got to rent a rescue-board from his colleagues and after some dry-practice, we were ready to nail it. Surfing did however give us a bigger challenge than we were expecting.. Timing is important, and balance, and good physic can make it easier. Non of us are known to have any of these qualities.. So Byrne had a tough job ahead. But his passion and commitment finally paid off.
Suddenly Marthe managed to surf a wave! What a feeling, felt perfect. (Laura got so exited for her, and stood up just when Ranveig took the photo, haha!)
Us now --> Us in the future!
In the right city at the right time again.. This day was also the day of the Tropfest in Sydney Botanical Garden – a very popular short film festival.
Byrnes grandma made us a amazing picnic basket which we enjoyed watching great films in the park, together with 90 000 others. Nicole Kidman among others.
Suddenly we also got a fascinating light show over the sky. Then the rain came and we all had to use our picnic blankets as tents. It was truly magical.
After some time the rain and thunderstorms got heavier and we decided to go home to dry our clothes for the next adventure. Fiji!
Thank you Byrne and Laura, for the perfect ending on our Australia adventure!
Our friends in Melbourne and actually all other Aussies we had met during our time in Australia said the same: The city is too busy, too noisy and not that nice. We had a really good time, and ended up with an other opinion.
We love Sydney.:-)
